6 Days Rongai Route
Rongai Route 6-Day Kilimanjaro Climb The 6-Day Rongai Route is the only Kilimanjaro trekking route that approaches the mountain from the northern side, near the Kenya-Tanzania border. Known for its peaceful trails, remote wilderness, and stunning panoramic views, the Rongai Route is an excellent choice for trekkers looking to avoid the busier southern routes while enjoying a gradual ascent to the summit. The adventure begins at Rongai Gate, where the trail winds through lush forests that are home to colobus monkeys, antelope, and a variety of bird species. As you gain altitude, the landscape changes to open moorland with spectacular views of the Kenyan plains and Kilimanjaro's rugged northern slopes. The route passes through remote camps and unspoiled alpine scenery, offering a unique perspective of Africa's highest mountain. The gradual ascent of the Rongai Route provides good acclimatization, making it suitable for climbers with moderate trekking experience. After reaching Kibo Hut, the final base camp, you'll begin your summit attempt around midnight. The climb leads to Gilman's Point on the crater rim before continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. Watching the sunrise from the Roof of Africa is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, with breathtaking views over glaciers, volcanic landscapes, and endless plains. After the summit, the descent follows the Marangu Route, allowing trekkers to experience two different sides of Kilimanjaro in one journey. The trek ends at Marangu Gate, where you'll receive your summit certificate before returning to Moshi.
